IP (internet protocol) security systems like VideoAudit surveillance cameras require POE (power over Ethernet) connection. Typically category 6 cable are used for this which has a maximum usable length of around 100 metres.

With the appearance of bigger sheds in excess of 100m in length, systems need something more than Cat 6 cabling. Fibre optic cabling can carry 100 Mbps for over 2 kilometres. This means that most larger warehouses benefit from the installation of a fibre optic “ring” around the perimeter, with local Cat 6 cabling connected to each device accessing the network at wall mounted sub cabinets.
